The Perpetual Building Fund (PBF) was announced Fall 2016. This bold initiative was launched to help communities have access to the purpose driven leadership education available through American Family Education (AFE) groups and schools. This program was revealed as a way to give a hand up to communities and still ensure the principle of self-reliance.
The PBF program is patterned after the Perpetual Education Fund, which functions as an endowment, meaning that all loans are made from interest, while the corpus (or body of the fund) remains intact. Loan repayments and subsequent donations are channeled back into the fund corpus, making it a truly “perpetual” resource. All donations made to the fund go to the fund corpus. Less than 18 months after its inception, the Perpetual Education Fund had disbursed more than 5,000 loans. By late 2009, it was announced that over 40,000 people had received loans through the program. The Perpetual Education Fund has made loans to students in more than 40 countries.
The Perpetual Building Fund is being funded through contributions of those who support the mission of AFE. It is a revolving resource in which money is invested to purchase a building to establish a new school where there is a community of families committed to have a parent led to purpose driven education available. These schools have a private tuition model which feeds the budget of the school. A portion of that budget is earmarked for the building and is therefore contributed back into the fund until the total purchase price of the building has been replenished back into the nonprofit, along with a modest 5% simple interest. This process allows for supporting the start of a limitless number of communities with the same funds.

Who may apply for PBF support?
PBF applicants must meet the following requirements:
Have completed AFE Local Director training
Be an approved Area or Local Director
Have an approved budget proposal that includes:
- Desired building (proposed purchase price and any needed improvements)
- Documents indicating local zoning and requirements to function as a school or educational services organization for the location.
- Plan for building use and projected capacity
- Number of interested local students (with number of committed students(registration and 10% down payment made)
- Budget outline for school operation
Commitment to staff and run AFE community school within 6 months of building purchase.
How do I apply for the PBF program?

What can the PBF be used for?
Purchase of building, tables, chairs, and other building improvements (ie: dry erase boards, library materials, etc.)
When and how is the fund replenished?
Upon the start of the school, monthly payments of the building budget are made from the Area Director (who manages the budgets for all assigned local schools) to the fund.
Once the amount of funds used is replenished plus 5% simple interest. The building budget is reduced dramatically and the budget surplus is then added to the compensation of the local staff and leaders that serve that location.
How are contributions used?
Contributions to the fund are used to help establish American Family Education schools. Contributions can be monetary donations, facilities, supplies, equipment, furniture, or services. Contributions are mainly used to for building expenses (purchase is preferred, rent when necessary) unless specifically recommended to a location’s operational budget (teacher/leader compensation, utilities, supplies).

Who directs the Perpetual Building Fund?
The American Family Education Perpetual Building Fund is managed by the American Family Education Home Office with the counsel of the AFE Regional Directors.
Regional Directors direct the local PBF program in their own region (for example there is one Regional Director approved for each state in the USA once there are more than two schools established).
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes! All donations to American Family Education since November 1, 2016 are donations to a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization.
Who will own the buildings and materials purchased by donations??
All purchases made with donated funds and donated materials will be owned by American Family Education the 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization. If donations exceed the needs of any one individual location,
materials and funds will be used to support other locations that qualify for this support.
Materials, resources, facilities can be either lent or rented from private individuals/companies for a time to the American Family Education local group. These assets will NOT be treated as donations.
If a location is closed or moved, assets owned by individuals/companies will be returned and assets owned by American Family Education will be either moved to other locations or sold and the funds will be donated back to the nonprofit to be used for other AFE locations.
